Join us for a dialogue between artist Mel Bochner and James Meyer, curator of modern art at the National Gallery of Art, to introduce the exhibition The Double. Bochner and Meyer will discuss the concept of the “double” as well as works by Bochner and other artists on view in relation to the exhibition’s four themes.
About Mel Bochner
Mel Bochner (b. 1940) is one of the leading figures of conceptual and post-conceptual art. For some 60 years, through a body of work that includes painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, and installation, he has investigated the axioms and conventions of language, measurement, linear perspective, and other systems of symbolic representation. Bochner is also a celebrated writer and critic, having composed defining texts on the art of his contemporaries.
His work has been the subject of one-person exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery, The Jewish Museum, Haus der Kunst, Munich, Yale University Art Gallery, Harvard University Art Museums, Baltimore Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and National Gallery of Art.
