Biography

Hannah was the daughter of Massachusetts mariner and merchant Patrick Tracy (c. 1711-1789). Tracy, born in Ireland, worked his way to America on a merchant ship and settled in Newburyport Massachusetts, he established himself as a shipowner, building a wharf and warehouses as well. Tracy acquired significant wealth through his activities. At his death at age seventy-eight, his estate was valued at more than 3,700 pounds. Tracy's son Nathanial was also a merchant, who met Thomas Jefferson aboard the Ceres while sailing to Europe in July 1784. Hannah (1755-1797) married Jonathan Jackson, with whom she had a son Patrick Tracy Jackson (1780-1847).[Compiled from sources and references recorded on CMS]
