Edwin Czeczowiczka was the son of Salomon and Jenni, née Weiner. Trained as an engineer in Vienna, he established a textile factory in Poland in the early twentieth century. His collecting activities began with his association with the dealer Gustav Nebehay, through whom he acquired a significant collection of old master drawings. Financial difficulties in 1929 lead to the 1930 sale in Berlin of a portion of the collection.
Czeczowiczka, his wife Caroline, née Reitlinger [b. 1896] and their three children fled the Nazis in 1938, and eventually settled in the UK. Their art collection was confiscated and sold at the Dorotheum in Vienna.
