Paul Methuen, of Corsham, was the son of Thomas Methuen (d. 1737) and his wife, Anne, daughter and sole heiress of Issac Selfe, of Benacre, Wiltshire, and Penelope, co-heir of 2nd Lord Lucas of Shenfield. Paul Methuen was a Member of Parliament for Warwick and for Great Bedwin. He married Christian (d. 1779), daughter and co-heir of Sir George Cobb, 3rd and last Baronet of Adderbury. He was the heir to his cousin, the diplomat Sir Paul Methuen (1672-1757), who died unmarried. The younger Paul Methuen and his wife had three sons, the eldest of whom, Paul Cobb Methuen (1752-1816), succeeded his father. (taken from Burke's Peerage)
