Biography

Grace Albee said that she took up wood engraving as a hobby because it offered a distraction from her worries. Born in Scituate, Rhode Island, Albee studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and with Paul Bornet in Paris. She focused on landscapes and rural scenes in her prints. Discarded objects from the past, such as sleighs and carriages, are another frequent theme in her work. The artist spent most of her life in Rhode Island.
