Biography

Seong Moy was born in Canton, China, and moved to the United States at age ten. His family settled in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he studied at the St. Paul School of Art. In 1941 Moy moved to New York City and enrolled in the Art Students League.

The artist has often used printmaking as a means to explore ideas for his paintings, for which he is better known. The compositions of his early woodcuts are colorful arrangements of interlocking curving shapes; Dancer in Motion is an example. Moy taught at the Art Students League and City College of New York.
