Overview: 102 paintings, posters, watercolors, and prints were shown from the 187th open national competition conducted by the Section of Fine Arts. 2,038 entries by 1,264 artists had been submitted. The competition was conducted for the American Red Cross by the Section of Fine Arts, Public Buildings Administration, Federal Works Agency. The topic was Red Cross activity in peace and wartime. 70 works were selected by a jury for purchase by the Red Cross, and others were recommended for exhibition around the country.
