Overview: 102 paintings and 40 drawings by 19 American artists were shown. The artists had been sent to army bases in Italy, the South Pacific, Alaska, North Africa, Brazil, and elsewhere, to record wartime activities. The War Department had gathered these works from various sources since the beginning of the war, and lent them to the Treasury Department for exhibition throughout the country.
