Overview: 16 American paintings, including 4 recently acquired by Dr. Hammer, were shown in conjunction with President Ronald Reagan's second inauguration. Although drawings from the Hammer collection had been exhibited frequently, this was the first time these paintings were seen in the National Gallery.

Organization: The exhibition was coordinated by Nicolai Cikovsky Jr.
