Overview: This exhibition of 77 prints and 2 drawings was selected from among more than 400 works in Jacob Kainen's bequest to the National Gallery of Art. Included were works spanning four centuries by more than 60 artists, demonstrating Kainen's wide-ranging interests and appreciation of printmaking techniques. Kainen's own Self-Portrait with Drypoint Needle was shown at the entrance to the exhibition.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington. Andrew Robison, Mellon senior curator of prints and drawings, National Gallery of Art, was curator.
