Overview: Édouard Manet's Ragpicker, on loan from the Norton Simon Foundation, was shown with 2 related paintings by the artist from the collection of the National Gallery of Art, The Old Musician and Tragic Actor (Rouvière as Hamlet), in this focus exhibition. This was the first time that Ragpicker had been exhibited outside the Norton Simon Museum in nearly 30 years. The loan was part of an ongoing program of exchanges between the Norton Simon Museum and the National Gallery of Art that began in May 2007.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art and the Norton Simon Foundation, Pasadena, California. Kimberly Jones, associate curator of French paintings, was curator.
