The painting is a gift from the family of Col. Edward Buchanan Cassatt. Julie Thayer Vehr is Mary Cassatt’s great-grandniece and Col. Edward Buchanan Cassatt’s granddaughter; Julie Diehl is Julie Thayer Vehr's daughter.
