The Medal and the Book
July 3, 2004–April 3, 2005
West Building, Ground Floor, G-21
This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.
Overview: Medals and coins were popular collectors’ items as far back as antiquity. Focusing on France, Italy, and England, this exhibition looked at the relationship between this collecting activity, and a genre of printed books that grew up around it from the 16th to the 18th century.
Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Neal Turtell, executive librarian, and Eleonora Luciano, associate curator of sculpture, were cocurators.
