A Tour Through Holland

June 8–September 15, 2008
East Building, Ground Floor, Study Center

This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery of Art.

Overview: As the Dutch Republic emerged from Spanish rule, there was a sense of competition between the various cities for prominence. One of the ways this manifested was in the publication of city guides and histories proclaiming the achievements of each town and city throughout the Netherlands. This exhibition surveyed the Low Countries, highlighting such books from the late 16th through the mid-18th century.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Yuri Long, rare book specialist, was curator.
