Technical Material

The collection includes more than 600 pieces of technical material—prints and contact sheets from Frank's negatives that have been printed by the National Gallery rather than the artist himself. Some are duplicates of contact sheets printed by Frank (for instance, the Spain contact sheets from 1948–1949 and 1952), while others are made from negatives that Frank did not print. Five prints in this group (T1994.37.211.19–T1994.37.211.19.24) may be vintage prints. These objects are not accessioned works of art. Technical material is detailed in Robert Frank Technical Material.

The collection also includes one camera that Frank used in Switzerland for his 40 Fotos project. It is a Voightländer camera that takes 9 x 12 cm film. It appears that Frank used both glass and film negatives in this camera.
