Internships and Fellowships

Internships

Since 1964 the National Gallery of Art has offered professional museum training to candidates from all backgrounds through a variety of internship programs. Interns are placed in departments where they work closely with mentors on special and ongoing projects. This is an international program and is open to candidates from all backgrounds.

Curatorial Fellowships

The postdoctoral fellowship program provides curatorial training and supports scholarly research related to the collections of the National Gallery of Art. Fellows are fully integrated into one of the Gallery's curatorial departments and are exposed to the full range of curatorial work.

Conservation Fellowships

Since 1983 the conservation division has offered fellowships that have enabled graduates of conservation programs to participate in the Gallery's mission to care for the collections. The program allows novice conservators to practice and refine their skills through the examination and treatment of works of art.

CASVA Fellowships

The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts is a research institute that fosters study of the production, use, and cultural meaning of art, artifacts, architecture, and urbanism, from prehistoric times to the present. The resident community of scholars includes pre- and postdoctoral fellows, senior and visiting fellows, and research associates.
