School Docent Program
School docents engage students in conversation and activities that promote careful looking skills and personal connections to works of art. They facilitate student-centered thematic tours for children 4 years old through 12th grade, providing rich and memorable experiences.
Interested in applying to join us? Attend one of six information meetings outlining the school docent program, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet staff and current docents and learn more about the program and the selection process. All meetings take place from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the National Gallery’s West Building Lecture Hall.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and life experiences. Spanish language speakers are encouraged to apply. You do not need to have previous knowledge of art or experience working with school-aged children. Docents will receive extensive ongoing training in museum teaching, understanding student audiences, and art history.
Deadline
The deadline to apply is December 18, 2023.
Selection Process
Applicants selected to interview will be notified in January 2023. Interviews will take place in February and March 2023.
