Teen Volunteer Program

As part of its gallery and studio learning offerings, the education division recruits local high school student volunteers for the fall term (September through December) and spring term (January through May). Volunteering takes places after school.

Student volunteers assist behind the scenes with clerical and administrative tasks that support the department’s education programs. Typical activities include preparing materials for art projects, photocopying, collating, and program cleanup. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn more about the National Gallery of Art through conversations with staff and tours of the galleries.

Candidates for the Teen Volunteer Program must be juniors or seniors with a mature, positive attitude and a strong work ethic. The schedule will vary weekly based on the number of projects to be completed. The time commitment can range from four to eight hours per week, with a minimum of 30 hours completed per term. Service hours will be documented and may be submitted for school-based community service credits. Volunteers may work fall or spring terms; positions are not available in the summer.

No parking is available, so volunteers are encouraged to use public transportation (Metrorail or Metrobus).

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Deadline for the fall term: September 8
Deadline for the spring term: December 1
