Overview: This exhibition celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Janus Press, founded by Claire van Vliet, by showcasing a selection of their books from the National Gallery of Art Library's artists' book collection. Many of the Janus Press books were generous gifts of Patricia G. England.

A more extensive version of this exhibition was installed at the Grolier Club in New York City from January to May 2006. The Grolier Club version of the show combined Gallery holdings with books from the collection of Ruth Fine, as well as supplementary material including working models, prototypes, broadsides, and additional works provided by Claire van Vliet herself.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Neal Turtell, executive librarian, and Ruth Fine, curator of special projects in modern art, were cocurators.
