Biography

Mary Ridgely, later Mrs. Henry Clay Palmer, was descended from the Ridgely family of Baltimore. Her great-grandfather was Edward Ridgely, (1791-1852), nephew of Eleanor Ridgely Laming. Mrs. Laming (c. 1761-1829) and her husband Benjamin (c. 1750-1792) were sitters for an 1788 portrait by Charles Willson Peale, now in the NGA (1966.10.1).
