Sir Charles Maynard, 5th Bt., was the son of Sir William Maynard, 4th Bt. and his wife, Charlotte (Bisshopp). He succeeded his father as baronet in 1772. In 1775 he succeeded a somewhat distant relative (Charles, 6th Baron and Viscount Maynard) as 2nd Viscount Maynard, and the following year married Anne Horton. They had no children, thus at the time of his death the viscountcy devolved upon his nephew, Henry Maynard.
