Washington, DC—The glamour and spirit of the Parisian entertainment district of Montmartre in the late 1800s has inspired an array of educational items and gifts for the special Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre exhibition shop. The shop will be located on the concourse level of the East Building of the National Gallery of Art, located at Fourth Street and Constitution Avenue, NW, from March 20 through June 12, 2005, while the exhibition is on view. The exhibition is located on the mezzanine and upper levels of the Gallery’s East Building.
Specialty Items
Exhibition merchandise includes a variety
of paper products, such as reproductions of images by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec,
Jules Chéret, Théophile
Alexandre Steinlen, and others; posters; boxed note cards; wall and engagement
calendars; a book of postcards; a 1,000-piece puzzle; and a large selection
of books for all ages. Gift items include ladies’ long black gloves inspired
by legendary French chanteuse Yvette Gilbert; jewelry inspired by styles of
the period; silk scarves and ties in various colors and designs; home accessories,

Exhibition Catalogue
The 308-page catalogue, Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre,
published by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and The Art Institute
of Chicago, in association with Princeton University Press, is lavishly illustrated
with 370 color plates and 17 halftones. It is the first major book to present

to 1901. The catalogue includes masterpieces by contemporaries Toulouse-Lautrec
inspired or who inspired him—Degas, Van Gogh, Picasso, and others—as
well as rarely seen illustrations, lithographs, photographs, and ephemera of
the era. The book will be available for $60.00 in hardcover and $40.00 in softcover
