The image depicts a night scene from a low vantage point near a body of water, with towering architectural structures across the reflective surface. The horizon is obscured by the buildings extending upward out of the frame. The fine etching technique creates a textured surface playing with light and shadow. The color palette includes shades of black, dark grey, and subtle off-white highlights suggesting artificial lighting. Lights highlight parts of the buildings and their reflections on the calm water, creating a dark, moody atmosphere.

Electrical Building at Night

Gerald Geerlings, Bertha Evelyn Jaques, Frank A. Nankivell, Chicago Society of Etchers · 1933 · etching in black on wove paper ·  Accession ID  2008.115.2013

The image shows a city skyline across water, with a low-angle view close to the water's edge. The horizon line is low in the frame, and the skyline is silhouetted against the sky. The tallest building is on the left. Various building heights and silhouettes suggest a bustling urban environment. The image has a grainy, textured effect, possibly from a printmaking technique. The color palette is sepia-toned, providing depth and contrast. Closest to us, there is a dock with two figures. The water reflects light from the skyline.

The image displays a city scene with a towering building dominating the composition. The horizon is located near the bottom of the scene with leafless trees framing an avenue filled with cars. More distant skyscrapers can be seen on the horizon, enveloped in a soft haze. The brushstroke technique creates texture and depth with tiny dots, producing a moody atmosphere. The color palette consists of sepia tones, with darker browns and blacks defining building outlines and lighter hues filling the sky and central structure.
