    Artwork

    The image depicts a group of four young women and girls. Three of them are standing, while one is seated. Two of the standing women are positioned on either side, while the third is seated on the left, facing slightly downward and holding an open book. The young girl is seated on the floor in front. All four have their hair parted in the middle and styled straight or tucked behind their ears. Their faces have calm expressions. They are wearing long-sleeved dresses with full skirts typical of the 19th century, featuring buttons or decorative stripes across the bodice. The dresses vary slightly in design but are similar in style. The background is a plain, neutral backdrop.
