    Artwork

The artwork is a sepia-toned photograph capturing a garden scene. In the center, a woman is seated on a raised area, surrounded by greenery. She is dressed in a long gown and is holding an object in her hands. The steps leading up to her are flanked by two white statues on pedestals, each depicting a classical figure with distinct poses. The garden is dense with shrubs and trees, forming an arch that frames the woman. The horizon is obscured by the foliage, and the sky is a light, even tone.
Lady Augusta Mostyn, Portrait of a Woman in a Garden, c. 1853, albumen silver print, Gift of Charles Isaacs and Carol Nigro in honor of Sarah Greenough, 2024.177.1
