Emilio Sanchez
American, born Cuba, 1921 - 1999
Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Emilio Sanchez became a painter and printmaker focused on light, shadow, and architecture. Across drawing, watercolor, and painting, Sanchez captured the urban landscapes of New York as well as the buildings of the Caribbean.
The artist captured the lines and angles of buildings morphing with the changing sunlight. Sanchez also created still life paintings featuring fruit and flowers. In 2021, the US Postal Service released a series of four stamps that honor Sanchez’s work.
