    Artwork

    The artwork presents a vignette portrait of Sir Francis Bacon from the upper torso upwards. He is positioned slightly turned to his right, in a partial three-quarter view. Sir Francis Bacon has a well-groomed beard and mustache, visible hair under a tall black hat, and wears a formal outfit typical of the early 17th century. He is adorned with a high lace ruff around his neck and an intricately patterned robe or jacket with visible sleeves. The background is plain, focusing attention on the figure. The image is centered on the paper with space around it, and the name "SIR FRANCIS BACON" is printed beneath the portrait.
