In the image, a man is seated in a chair. He is relaxed with his legs crossed, one arm on the armrest, and the other supporting his head by the chin. The man has a beard, a mustache, curly hair, and wears a large-brimmed hat. He is dressed in elaborate Renaissance attire, including a patterned jacket, a ruffled collar, knee-length shorts, stockings, and bow shoes. The chair is high-backed with round finials. The background is plain. The caption reads "Francis Bacon, Lord Verulam."
