James Rosenquist, Graphicstudio · 1971 · color lithograph with mirrored-Mylar foil on Arches Cover wove paper ·  Accession ID  1986.26.145

This print shows a dense forest with trees extending upwards and outwards against the sky, which is a gradient of blue at the top, to dark purple, to bright magenta at the bottom. The bright pink color bleeds into the surrounding foliage and dirt at the bottom of the photograph. Small white dots are visible across the print, giving the impression of stars in the sky. In the center of the print, there is a shape that looks almost like the outline of a person standing on the ground, although it is ambiguous.

Sous Bois from Three Guilty Landscapes

Sebastiaan Bremer, Graphicstudio · 2023 · color relief and screenprint on wove paper ·  Accession ID  2024.131.1.1

The image shows a view through dense, dark tree branches that cross the scene, forming a natural latticework. The horizon is obscured by the landscape blending into a gradient sky. The sky transitions from pink at the top to blues and purples. The brushstrokes use a stippling technique to create texture. The color palette includes earthy greens and blacks along with pastels in the sky. Speckles of pink and white are scattered around. The composition emits a tranquil and mysterious aura with a harmonious blend of elements and colors.

The Sunken Forest from Three Guilty Landscapes

Sebastiaan Bremer, Graphicstudio · 2023 · color relief and screenprint on wove paper ·  Accession ID  2024.131.1.3

The image depicts bold black lines and broad strokes creating a swirling pattern. The shapes suggest a face with a furrowed brow, an open mouth, and scrunched features, with a blue and red garment draping across the figure. The intricate patterning and high contrast give the image a dynamic, half-comic book style, evoking fluidity. This abstract approach with familiar elements prompts connections to struggle or conflict.

The image depicts a person bending forward at the waist, reaching towards the ground, with a full-body view. The figure is illustrated on what seems to be a perforated, cardboard asparagus box or packaging, featuring text and logos associated with "Fresh Asparagus." The person wears a cap and is shown in profile, with unclear facial features and hair. Their attire includes a jacket and pants in black and white, with green and purple accents. The person holds a pole or tool. The background displays various texts and labels related to asparagus and packaging specifications, accompanied by vivid purple illustrations within the largely monochromatic composition.

The image displays a complex pattern of flowing lines and dotted shapes throughout the composition. The design conveys movement and depth, resembling fluid elements like water or wind currents. In the center, there is a silhouette that could be interpreted as a human figure. The blue color scheme enhances the underwater theme, with the surrounding lines resembling water currents.

Sebastiaan Bremer, Graphicstudio · 2021 · one from a portfolio of seven color lithographs on wove paper ·  Accession ID  2024.131.7.1

The image displays various shapes and lines with overlaid bodies in grayscale contorting in different poses against a sepia-toned background. The limbs and torsos form twisting, looping shapes, and interact with a historical scene depicted in the background. The figures in the background wear clothing from a bygone era and seem to be engaged in some activity. The juxtaposition of contemporary abstract human forms with the traditional scene creates a surreal blend.

The image displays a street view drawing from a slightly elevated perspective, capturing a scene from Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, marked with the year 1921. The horizon is high in the image, emphasizing a row of brick buildings extending to the right. These buildings have two to three stories, featuring large windows and awnings over the street. A telephone pole appears on the left side of the image. The artistic style uses fine brushstrokes and precise lines to define the architecture's details and textures. The color palette is predominantly monochromatic, with shades of gray and hints of sepia, complemented by a pale, sky-blue wash in the background.
