The image depicts an urban street scene with a low horizon. A building in the distance has a sign that reads "GOOD PREMIUM COAL." A strong diagonal is created by the sidewalk and road. The artist uses detailed brushstrokes in a lithographic style with a monochromatic color palette of varying shades of grey. Figures are seen sitting or lying against a brick wall on the right side, with indistinct posters or signs. More figures are walking along the street toward the building. The sky has softly rendered clouds.
