Artwork history & notes
Provenance
(Lorenz Gallery, Bethesda, MD); [1] Jacob Kainen, Washington, D.C., purchased June 7, 1975; gift to NGA, 2002.
[1] The Kainens purchased an identified drawing and two unidentifed etchings by the artist in 1975. They only ever donated the drawing and two prints, so it is likely that the above was purchased at the time of the drawing (1987.47.3). However, the donor file reveals that the Kainens purchased unidentified works by Colescott in 1974 from Van Straaten Gallery in Chicago, in addition to the if.a. Galleries in 1976.
