Artist, American, 1901 - 1973

The image depicts a side profile view of a miner from the shoulders up. The person is slightly turned, looking to the side. Facial features, such as a strong jawline and visible creases, are detailed. The miner wears a miner's cap with a lamp attached, concealing much of his hair. He wears a jacket with a collar and buttons, holds a cigarette in his left hand, and rests a mining tool, likely a pick, on his shoulder with his right hand. The background features sketchy lines and shading suggesting a mining environment, with a faint depiction of another figure in the background extending an arm with a tool or equipment.
