Artist, American, born Ukraine, 1892 - 1973

The image shows a water tank structure dominating the scene. The tank is centrally placed and seen from a slightly below angle. The supporting frames are accentuated, and the horizon line is not easily visible. A building is on the right, and a receding wall is on the left. The highly detailed technique uses linear brushstrokes to render the texture and shadow of the water tower and surrounding architecture. The black-and-white color palette relies on shading and light and shadow play for depth and form. A lone figure walks on a path with puddles of water reflecting light patterns in the foreground.
