Untitled [female nude in prone position: buttocks and legs]

1955-1967

Richard Diebenkorn

Artist, American, 1922 - 1993

A nude woman lies on her belly, her chest disappearing off the right edge of the peach-tinted paper in this horizontal drawing. We look slightly down on her body as she rests her left foot against the other shin. Her buttocks, straight right leg, and bent left leg are heavily outlined and shading is sketched in. Her torso seems to torque toward us, and single lines capture the profile of her belly and perhaps her right arm and elbow, on which she is propped. At left center an oval, red stamp reads, "ARCHIVAL RD MATERIAL."
