The sculpture depicts a muscular man in a crouched pose. He holds a short sword in one hand and a shield with a lion-like face on it in the other. He is nude, with a helmet on his head. His brows are furrowed and his mouth is open. The sculpture is made of a reflective dark material with some areas of tan patina. It is mounted on a solid, rectangular base made of dark stone with pale gray marbling.

[1] The Widener Collection card file in NGA curatorial records notes that the sculpture was "Bought from Salvadori, 1907. Paid for April 25, 1908."
