The seated person is viewed almost in profile from the waist up, with an upright posture in a chair and hands resting in their lap. Their facial features are silhouetted against a dark backdrop, with emphasis on the outline. The person wears a headscarf covering their hair and a flowing garment. The background has heavy, vertical lines resembling curtains. Light and shadow are used impressionistically, creating bright and dark contrasts throughout the image.
