The woman is wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved gown with a high collar and full skirt that extends down to the floor. Her back is visible as the most prominent feature. She is not visibly wearing any jewelry nor holding any objects besides pressing the piano keys. The room features a richly patterned carpet, a wooden chair draped with a cloth, framed paintings or pictures on the wall, a decorative clock with a lace cover on the mantel above the piano, patterned wallpaper, a partially open wooden door to the left side draped with a heavy, patterned curtain, and a calendar hanging near the curtain.
