By unknown hand (probably Turner's daughter), in graphite: (sketch and identification of sitters); in graphite: 1 (within circle); on verso, lower in graphite: [lengthy text on upper verso erased] This has always been taken for a group at a wedding; but various parts (?) in it show / that it must have been taken about 1852 or 3 & no wedding is recorded / in the family at that time. My mother is the central figure seated between / her mother & the rector - my mother apparently holding a prayerbook or bible / Can the vague figures on the right be a nurse with a baby? / But all of us were christened at St. Martins in the Fields / PS. (?) On the whole the / internal evidence is convincing that it is the wedding party of my father & mother: & the conclusion is that my father must / have borrowed a camera & taken the photo (which accounts for his absence from / the group); although he did not, by his own statement, begin photography / until 1849-two years later; lower left in graphite: 102493.1
