This engraving depicts a band performance featuring several men and women with dark skin. In the center, a man in a top hat dances energetically. He wears a black suit over a white shirt and holds a cane in one gloved hand. Around and behind this man, musicians play various instruments with vigor. In the bottom left, a man plays a grand piano. On the right, three rows of musicians stand in risers, playing instruments like trumpets, tubas, violins, and cymbals. They are led by a standing conductor who faces away from us and holds up a baton. Around the conductor, sitting or kneeling on the floor, are several people in white robes with their hands outstretched. The background is mostly black, with some thin white lines suggesting light being cast on the walls and floor.
