Artist, American, 1841 - 1914

The image displays a dusty street scene with a group of donkeys. The perspective allows viewing along the street from a slightly elevated angle. Donkeys are shown close to us, with some standing and others resting on the ground. The scene includes rustic buildings made of timber along the left side of the dirt road, with roofs supported by wooden beams. These buildings extend into the distance, framing the scene and converging at the vanishing point. There is no distinct horizon visible, with the road and buildings continuing indefinitely. The artist utilizes fine, detailed etching technique to create texture and depth, using lines and cross-hatching for light and shadow effects. The color palette is monochromatic, mostly grey, contributing to the historical and reflective mood of the image.
