Artist, German, 1759 - 1841

The image depicts a woodland scene with a dominant gnarled tree on the right side. The branches of the tree extend horizontally and intertwine with surrounding foliage, creating a dense canopy filling most of the upper portion. The horizon is obscured by the dense forest, rich in detail. The artist uses intricate line work and fine brushstrokes to depict the texture of leaves and bark. The color palette is black ink on a light background, emphasizing contrast. Shrubs and smaller plants near the viewer add to the sense of depth and lushness.
