The image is depicts a rural scene from an elevated angle. The horizon separates the sky from the flat land stretching out toward water and faint outlines of mountains. A train produces a plume of dark smoke as it travels across the horizon. Closest to us, two figures raise their arms as they face the train, with a horse-drawn cart nearby. The brushstrokes are detailed and precise, capturing the textures of the landscape and structures. The color palette is monochromatic with shades of black and white dominating. Simple wooden buildings are on either side of the dirt road in the foreground.
