A young girl half lies, half sits in grass in this horizontal, black and white photograph. The girl wears a one-piece bathing suit and sits propped on her right arm, to our left. One leg stretches long to the right and the bottom knee is bent. She looks directly at us with dark eyes, and her lips are closed. Her long hair falls behind her shoulders. The other elbow angles into her belly, and she holds something small, perhaps a potato chip, in that hand out to the side. A plate with a hamburger bun and chips sits in the grass in front of her. Chairs and a table laden with dishes and bottles are out of focus in the background, in the top right quadrant of the photograph, and a child beginning to climb a tree is barely discernable beyond that.
