Possibly William A. Clark [1839-1925], New York; or possibly his oldest daughter, the sitter, Mary Joaquina Clark Culver Kling de Brabant [1870-1939]; by descent in the family to the sitter's grandnephews and grandniece, Clark's great-grandchildren, and siblings, John H. Hall, Jr. [1926-1999], Lewis R.M. Hall [1929-2014], and Mrs. Katherine H. Vass [1932-1996]; gift 1978 to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2015 by the National Gallery of Art.
