Provenance

Acquired from the artist probably 1986 by Thurlow Evans Tibbs, Jr. [1952-1997], Washington;[1] gift 1996 to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2015 by the National Gallery of Art.
[1] During a visit to the NGA conservation studio in November 2021, the artist confirmed that Tibbs acquired the work from her directly and indicated the likely year of acquisition. See e-mail dated 25 January 2022 from LaStarsha D. McGarity, Andrew Mellon Fellow in the Department of Objects Conservation, in NGA curatorial files.
