Artwork history & notes
Provenance
Thurlow Evans Tibbs, Jr. [1952-1997], Washington, probably after 1988;[1] gift 1996 to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2015 by the National Gallery of Art.
[1] Tibbs' gallery held an exhibition of the artist's work in the spring of 1988 that did not include this painting, which it probably would have had Tibbs owned it by then (NGA Library, Tibbs Archive, Series I, Box 5, Grafton Tyler Brown file; copy of the exhibition checklist in NGA curatorial files).
