Painter, American, 1861 - 1948

This painting shows an upper-body view of a woman painting. She is turned towards us, looking down at a large paint palette smeared with bright colors that she holds in one hand. In her other hand, she holds a long paintbrush. Other paint brushes rest on the palette. The woman has a youthful face, with light skin, rosy cheeks, and dark, curly hair that frames her face and is tied up behind her head. She is wearing a white outfit with a rounded lace collar under a blue jacket with long sleeves. A dark green pendant or brooch is visible at her neckline. In the background, on the left, is a canvas with dark paint that almost blends in with the brown wall behind it.
