Provenance
John Cumberland, Esq. by 1838;[1] sold 1 February 1840 to Bellamy by (Christie, Manson & Woods, London, no. 97) with companion painting.[2] Sold 2 March 2016 (Bonhams, London, no. 9) with companion painting.[3] Donald Stone, New York [1942-2020]; bequest 2022 to NGA.
[1] The painting, together with a companion scene of Le Havre, was included in the 1838 sale of Cumberland’s collection at the Colosseum, Regent’s Park, London; both went unsold. See A Catalogue of the Cumberland Gallery of Pictures London, 1838: no. 59. Copy in NGA curatorial file.
