Artist, American, 1895 - 1965

The image shows the upper bodies of two women from the shoulders up. The woman on the left is facing forward with her head slightly turned to the viewer's left. She has long dark hair that is covered with a dark scarf, part of which frames her face. She has strong facial features with deep-set eyes and slightly furrowed brows. She wears a dark shawl. Next to her, on the right, is another woman who is mostly covered with a similar dark cloth, revealing only her eyes and a portion of her forehead. She holds the cloth with her right hand, exposing her eyes more clearly. The background appears to be neutral and slightly textured, possibly a stone or earthen wall, which is out of focus, keeping the attention on the two women.
