Artist, Scottish, 1728 - 1812

The image shows a seascape with turbulent waves crashing towards a lighthouse standing amidst the stormy sea. Two sailing ships are seen on either side of the lighthouse. The etching technique creates a textured appearance with dynamic movement depicted in the waves and sky. The color palette is monochromatic in varying shades of gray, intensifying the dramatic atmosphere. The lighthouse is the focal point against a lighter background.
